Alexis Hicks – Director

Alexis Hicks is an advocate, storyteller, and community organizer. Today, she serves as the Director of Advocacy and Policy with the Mississippi Early Learning Alliance (MELA). In her role, she supports coalitions to advocate for systems change to improve early learning and child development outcomes in Mississippi.

Before coming to MELA, she engaged and partnered with youth across the state to inform and support Teen Health Mississippi’s sexual and reproductive health and rights work. Alexis is driven by change that takes a holistic, cross-sectoral approach to community health and development and is especially dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable communities through system reform, trauma-informed practices, and community engagement. When she’s not working, Alexis enjoys starting DIY projects that she probably won’t finish; rummaging through thrift stores; traveling; and brunch with her girlfriends.
